H*Chairs have a distinguishing unusual characteristic: original Art Deco frames that wear 1930s Shanghainese dresses, the qipao. Collected with passion, these rarities bring back the spirit of Shanghai retro glam in a new form.
Tailored to be more fitting and revealing right after the ‘Qing Dynasty’, to Shanghai’s high-class brothel body hugging outfit during World War I - with side slits for their mistresses – the qipao later became popular as a dress for high society. Mao’s Revolution ended it, but emigrants and refugees brought the fashion to Hong Kong where it has remained popular.
